Russ Porterfield
Featured Airman Russ Porterfield (right) is presented with the LCAA's Appreciation Award by Tom Wasson at Association's meeting on February 23. Russ Porterfield first soloed in the early 1960s and has been actively involved in aviation every since. Russ and his wife, Joyce, started building their beautiful Wheeler Express composite aircraft in 1989. Its first flight was in 2000. During the building of the aircraft, the project outlived no less than three bankruptcies of the Express Aircraft Co. Joyce, who is also a pilot, reports that he can be found most days happily tinkering at his hangar. All of those hours at the airport have produced a pristine airplane that is always in perfect condition. We are sure that N57PW gets more days (or maybe even "weeks") of maintenance per actual flight hour than any other aircraft at Lampson Field! Russ was elected (railroaded) LCAA Treasurer in January 1998 and served in that capacity until January 2006. He worked for United Airlines at SFO for 33 years as an A&P mechanic. Lampson Field is open for Business These local folks are available to help with your aviation needs: |
